Five Winter Skin Care Tips

Whether your skin is oily or dry, winter weather can cause your skin to take a beating.  Read these tips for ideas on how to improve your skin this winter.

1. Use a good-quality moisturizer.
Moisturizing is especially important during the dry winter months.  Some key ingredients that you will find in a really good moisturizer can be hyaluronic acid, which is already found naturally in your skin; hydroxyproline, a lipoaminoacid whose structure is naturally present in skin; and shea butter, a vegetal butter known for nourishing and protecting skin.

Try:  Obagi Hydrate Facial Moisturizer, Pro-Derm Stem Youth Night Cream, Pro-Derm Regenerating Cream

2.  Exfoliating is important!
A chemical peel or a facial can slough off the dead skin cells that can dull your completion and stimulate the production of new cells to make your skin look more radiant and healthy in the winter.  Many peels leave you with no downtime, peeling or side effects.  You will just walk out looking and feeling more radiant.

Try:  IS Clinical Fire and Ice Facial, or an AFA peel

3.  Apply a Hydrating Mask.
A hydrating mask that is PH balanced will help your skin stay hydrated in the cold, harsh winter months.  Try a mask that contains an anti-aging serum and contains hyaluronic acid.

Try: Stem Youth Tensor Anti-Fatigue Tissue Mask

4.  Don't Forget Your Vitamin C!
Vitamin C is a great product for any time of year but you will especially appreciate the brightening effects of a good Vitamin C serum in the winter months.  Apply it once a day before your moisturizer and makeup.  This is a great way to prevent wrinkles and stimulate collagen synthesis.

Try:  Obagi Professional-C Serum, available in 10%, 15% or 20%

5.  Keep Using Sunscreen
Sunscreen is important at any time but it is especially important in the snow when playing winter sports, or if you are taking a winter holiday.  Don't forget to apply it periodically throughout the day!

Try:  Obagi Healthy Skin Protection, Broad Spectrum SPF

One Surprising Body Part That Could be Giving Away Your Age

Today, with the increasing popularity of quick fixes for aging including Botox and fillers and the popularity of rejuvenative facial surgery, women are able to delay signs of aging like never before.  Crow's feet and frown lines can be smoothed, cheeks can be plumped up, nasolabial folds and marionette lines can be smoothed out and this can easily cause people to be left guessing about a woman's age.  One surprising tell-tale sign of aging that many people neglect, is the hands.

As hands age, they develop a sunken appearance and lose fat.  This can cause bones, tendons and veins to become more prominent.  Since your hands are a part of you that is always on display, it is worth looking into a solution to make them look younger again.

Radiessse is a dermal filler that can be injected into the hands to plump them up, adding lost volume and dramatically reducing the appearance of bones and veins.  This procedure is associated with minimal discomfort and the effects last up to twelve months or more in some patients.

Book your consultation today to see if this treatment is appropriate for you.

Looking for gift ideas for your family and friends?  We have several gift ideas for those who want to be pampered!

One idea that would be perfect for a daughter, mother or sister is Latisse.  Latisse is a unique product that helps lengthen and thicken your eyelashes.  You will receive a kit that has a small bottle of liquid that will last several months, along with a supply of brushes.  Just take a drop, put it on the brush and apply it along the base of the upper eyelashes every night and in a few weeks you will notice that your lashes are becoming noticeably longer and fuller.  You should use Latisse for six weeks to see maximum results and keep using it continuously to maintain the effect.

Another great gift that you might think of purchasing is a box of Pro-Derm Stem Youth Tensor Anti-Fatigue Tissue Masks.  They come in a box of 10 that can be divided up and gifted individually.  The mask is used for both men and women, of all skin types, usually age 35 and over.  It is a tissue mask that has been impregnated with a highly-concentrated anti-aging serum.  Just unfold the mask, apply it, relax and leave it on for 15 to 20 minutes.  No need to rinse it off, as the leftover serum can be rubbed into the skin for maximum benefit.

Finally, a product that works for most skin types is the Obagi Professional-C Serum.  In one survey, 91% of patients noticed an improvement in the condition of their skin which was reported to be softer, brighter, and more hydrated after using the serum.  C-Serum is an antioxidant therapy that can help prevent signs of premature aging, stimulate collagen production, and moisturize and increase skin hydration.  Available in three strengths - 10% (for dry, reactive skin), 15% (for normal skin), and 20% (for non-sensitive skin).

This is just a small sampling of great products that we have available at Evolution Plastic Surgery Clinic.  If you are looking for something specific, please stop by the clinic or give us a call and we can discuss products with you.  Gift certificates are also available that can be applied toward product, laser treatments, injectables or peels.

Skin Tightening Without Surgery

What if you knew that you could tighten lax skin on your jawline, under the chin, upper arms or abdomen without a surgical procedure?

Skin tightening lasers work by heating the dermis, well below the skin's surface.  This works to contract collagen and tighten areas of loose skin.  Some patients observe immediate results but the procedure will continue to stimulate new collagen production and the skin will gradually tighten and improve over a three to six month period.

Some patients respond so well that they only need one treatment while others will need a series of treatments to get the maximum results.

Three Ways to Look Younger Without Cosmetic Surgery

Rejuvenating procedures do not always have to involve surgical intervention.  If you are hesitant to go ahead with surgical correction there are some very effective options that can benefit you if you are trying to look younger or enhance your appearance.

First of all, Botox and Xeomin work to relax frown lines and crow's feet.  If you have wrinkles between your brows that now seem to be a permanent fixture, Botox or Xeomin are the perfect solution.  They start working 2 to 10 days and usually last for 3 months or even more in some cases.  Crow's feet are also greatly reduced and the combined effect will give you a refreshed, more relaxed appearance.  In the hands of our trained professionals you will always walk away looking natural and never artificial.

Fillers are another extremely effective option in non-surgical facial rejuvenation.  Fillers work to restore lost facial volume and plump up any sagging areas that naturally occur from a loss in facial fat as we age.  Fillers will reduce the appearance of lines, wrinkles and folds and can address many common concerns without any surgical intervention.  We use the Belotero line of fillers with different consistencies available to smooth lines or plump up areas with lost volume.  These are commonly used in cheeks, lips, chin, and nasolabial folds.  You may have some swelling, redness, or slight bruising after the injection but this should subside quickly and can be minimized with concealer.  The fillers will typically last from 9 to 18 months.

A third option for those who are not ready for surgical correction, and even for those who are, is medical-grade skin care products.  At Evolution Plastic Surgery Clinic we carry the Obagi and Pro-Derm lines.  Elastiderm Eye Cream is a very popular product at the clinic that has been consistently reported in clinical studies to improve the appearance of crepey skin, improve firmness and improve fine lines and wrinkles.  Other products we love include the Pro-Derm Stem Youth line.   The Pro-Derm line contains active ingredients and the Stem Youth Line is made with plant stem cells derived from apple and argan.  Day cream, night cream, serum and tissue mask are available.

Four Things Laser Genesis Can Do For You

Many people are curious about laser facials and the benefits that they can derive from one.  There are different types of lasers available that can be used to effectively treat a variety of skin concerns including tighten skin, and improve skin vascularity and pigmentation.  One type of laser that is suitable for almost everyone is Laser Genesis.  This treatment is used extensively in our clinic as a proven, effective method for reducing and improving scars but we will deal with that in a future post.

How Does it Work?

Laser Genesis works by heating the upper dermis which is located well below your skin's surface, Laser Genesis stimulates collagen production.  Additional heat generated in dilated capillaries also works to reduce redness.  This treatment has also been proven to:

1)  Improve fine wrinkles

2)  Reduce large pore size

3)  Improve skin texture
                                                                                                                                                                 4)  Improve diffuse redness.

Four to six treatments are often recommended for maximum results and this is a treatment that is regularly done by some people every six weeks to maintain optimum regenerative benefits and stave off the signs of ageing.  There is no downtime or side effects other than some possible redness post-treatment that will dissipate after several hours.

How to Glow in the Dull Winter Weather

Winter is now creeping in on us and sadly, many of us feel the effects of the cold harsh weather in our skin.  Dull, sallow skin is common complaint in the cold weather and the timing could not be worse for those who want to look their best during the holiday season.

A facial or a peel are very effective in getting you glowing and looking your best fast.  At Evolution Plastic Surgery Clinic we offer two very different treatments, depending on your skin care needs.

First is the Fire and Ice Facial.  This is one treatment that the staff at the clinic all love and look forward to having!  This very appropriately named facial is designed to treat aging, acne, and hyperpigmentation.  You will feel it working with first the "Fire" portion of the treatment - a resurfacing mask that really does heat up the skin with a fiery treatment that contains a combination of antioxidants, botanical acids, retinol and niacin.  This is followed by the "Ice" treatment - a rejuvenating masque that nourishes, cools and restore's your skin's balance again using hyaluronic acid and aloe vera along with natural extracts.

The other treatment we use is the AFA Clay Peel, a two-step process that will immediately leave your skin feeling younger, softer and tighter.  The first step is an AFA masque designed that draws impurities and prepares the skin for the AFA gel peel, which comes in different strengths, determined by your skin type. This peel is an effective treatment for those with uneven pigmentation, fine lines, or sun-damaged skin.  You will see results immediately but for maximum results, six treatments 2-3 weeks apart are sometimes recommended.

So, if you are looking for a way to get your skin glowing and help you look radiant again, speak to us about one of these quick fixes for facial rejuvenation!
